Coal remains a valuable commodity

To the editor,

As President of Diamond Gold Corporation I refute Mr. Spangler's assertion, reported in the Frontiersman’s article "New Coal Battle Heats up in Sutton" on January 17 that coal is no longer a valued commodity.

Quite the contrary.

Our corporation, in its expansion of Sable Elegance and Fire Brick Mines, Yentna Mining District, will need 50 MW of coal-fired electrical generation.

Diamond Gold Corporation has identified two coal seams, both within 20 miles of the mines, which can supply our annual coal needs at a cost of approximately $6 million.

The same annual fuel requirements would consume 10 million gallons of diesel (Estimated Annual delivered/stored cost of $60 million) or 1.5 to 2 bcf natural gas (roughly estimated at $15 to $20 million annually-if gas can be obtained).

Coal lights up our life!

Ed Ellis, president

Diamond Gold Corporation
