JUNEAU — Palmer students Sam Dinges and Jasmin Johnson were among a diverse group of Alaska teenagers at Alaska Youth for Environmental Action’s weeklong Civics and Conservation Summit in Juneau. The summit is a program of the National Wildlife Federation.

Students gathered at the steps of the Alaska State Capitol March 22 to honor three members of the Legislature with the 2012 AYEA Legislator of the Year award.

Sen. Gary Stevens, Sen. Bill Wielechowski and Sen. Hollis French were honored for championing issues the teens care about, including protection of Bristol Bay, stopping genetically modified fish, providing funding for school lunches and coastal zone management.
