Colberg appears to be new mayor

PALMER – Less than an hour after polls closed, with all precincts reporting, it appears Talis Colberg has won the race for borough mayor.

Colberg is a former member of the borough assembly and former attorney general for the state.

The unofficial results posted to the borough’s Web page at about 8:45 p.m. showed Colberg had taken 2,451 votes. His next closest competitor, Bruce Walden, garnered 772 votes.

The only other candidate to pull triple digits was Steve Menard, who took in 452 votes. Menard is the son of the late Mayor Curt Menard, whose death opened the seat up to a special election.

The other four candidates took home the following totals: Emil, “Butch” Fondahn – 59, John Leiner – 42, Frank Shor – 45, David Straub – 54.

If those preliminary totals hold, it appears Colberg has taken more than 60 percent of the vote, negatintg the need for a run-off election. Colberg will be up for re-election in October.
