Ferdinand, a 12-year-old musk ox, braves the cold and windy weather as he stands on top of a hill at the 80-acre Musk Ox Farm in Palmer Monday morning. The outer hair of musk ox is a protective layer that provides insulation during cold weather. In May, the animals are combed to remove the underlying layer of hair. The Musk Ox Farm will begin its tourist season on Mother’s Day, May 8. (ROBERT DeBERRY/Frontiersman)
