PALMER — The Mat-Su Borough has contracted with Collins Construction to build the new Su Valley Jr. and Sr. High School.
The contract will go for approval to the Mat-Su Borough Assembly on Aug. 5.
The previous Su Valley school burned down June 5, 2007, displacing students to portable classrooms at the Su Valley Senior Center. The contract with Collins requires the school be mostly finished by Dec. 1, 2009 and includes incentives for finishing the school early.
This isn’t the first bidding process to rebuild the Su Valley school.
Collins Construction was originally expected to be awarded the contract in June, but the approval was pulled from the assembly’s agenda when Borough administration learned of activities in violation of its request-for-proposals rules, Borough Manager John Duffy has said.
This time around, the same three contractors submitted proposals, the Borough reports. Those contractors are Collins Construction, Roger Hickel Contracting Inc., and SKW/Eskimos Inc.
Again, Collins Construction won the deal with a bid of $17.3 million, which is down $496,000 from its original bid.
“The next step is obtaining assembly approval and then beginning construction as soon as possible,” Duffy says in a prepared statement. “We look forward to getting the students back into their high school.”
