WASILLA — At least six people were sent to area hospitals as the result of a two-car accident that happened just outside Wasilla late Saturday afternoon.
The accident, which involved an older model Chevy Blazer sports utility vehicle and an older model Plymouth Horizon sedan, was near the intersection of Spring Drive and the Parks Highway, in front of the Meadow Creek Center.
Alaska State Troopers on the scene report the Blazer, traveling south on the Parks Highway toward Wasilla, was observed crossing the center line. As the Blazer tried to swerve back into traffic, the vehicle was T-boned by the Plymouth, which was traveling northbound toward Big Lake.
Two adults, one of whom is a pregnant female, were in the Plymouth and both were taken to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center, Troopers reported from the scene. The pregnant female was the driver of the vehicle.
AST also said at least four people were in the Blazer. One was taken to Providence Medical Center in Anchorage, while the remainder of those riding in the Blazer were taken to Mat-Su Regional. Troopers also said at least one adult was a passenger in the Blazer, while the remainder of those in the Blazer are believed to be teenagers.
In addition, AST reports from the scene were that at least one person was ejected from the Blazer as result of the accident. Further information about the age and status of those involved in the accident was unavailable at press time.
Troopers responded to the scene at about 4:15 p.m. and as of about 6 p.m., AST officials had closed off a 40-yard section of the Parks Highway and were diverting traffic through the parking lot of the Meadow Lakes Center.
