PALMER — Student actors from Colony Middle School and Teeland Middle School are teaming up for a local adaption of Disney’s “Frozen Jr.”, based on the 2018 Broadway musical.
This production serves as milestone for both Colony and Teeland’s drama departments. CMS music director Tobias Lambert said this is the first time they’ve collaborated with another middle school.
“We decided to pull together to do this and it’s actually working really well,” Lambert said.
The show features all of the memorable songs from the 2013 animated film, plus several new songs, characters and scenes. Lambert said they get more time to flesh out characters like Elsa and Anna’s parents and the plot actually leads into the second film.
Lambert said there are about 37 actors and six crew members. He noted that a lot of parents are involved as well.
Teeland students Reilly Mullenix and Jocelyn Primas play the lead roles as sisters Princess Anna and Queen Elsa. Mullenix plays Anna and Primas plays Elsa.
CMS student Dylan Cornelison plays Hans, the villainous prince. He said that he’s enjoyed working with another school on the same production.
“I’ve made new friends because I’ve just had the Colony kids here but now that the Teeland kids are here, it’s really fun,” Cornelison said.
Ben Wargo is directing “Frozen Jr.” with Lambert as the musical director.
Frozen Jr. premiers Friday, Nov. 1 at Colony Middle School at 7 p.m. with three additional shows on Nov. 2, 8 and 9. For a full schedule, visit CMS’s online calendar at matsuk12.us/Page/7549#calendar7421/20191126/month
