Colony boys and girls, Palmer boys earn conference soccer championships

The Colony Knights swept the Railbelt Conference titles.

Colony also capped the regular season with a pair of shutout victories over rival Wasilla Friday night.

The Colony girls beat Wasilla 2-0. Savannah Anderson notched a five-save shutout in goal and also converted a penalty kick. Avrie Geigerich also scored.

The Knights also beat the Wasilla boys 3-0. Quinn Dowd led the Knights with a goal and and an assist. Isaac Villa and Tyler Swartz also scored.

Both Colony teams now look ahead to the Division I state tournament, which starts Thursday in the Valley.

Colony, the defending boys state champions, are the No. 2 seed, and open against seventh-seeded Chugiak Thursday at 5 p.m. at Colony High.

The Knights are the fifth seed on the girls bracket, and open against fourth-seeded Service Thursday at 3 p.m. at CHS.

The Palmer boys also won a conference championship, finishing first in the Division II Northern Lights.

The Moose swept Kodiak in a two-match home series to end the regular season. Palmer beat Kodiak 5-0 on both Friday and Saturday. Aidan Kent scored twice on Friday. Elijah VonGunten, Porter Johnson and Cole Miller also scored Friday. Kent, VonGunten, Miller, Fischer Adams and Noah Gallego scored on Saturday.

The Palmer girls also swept Kodiak, beating the Bears 4-0 on each day.

Kaylee Gallego and Haven White scored two goals each Friday. Gallego had a hat trick on Saturday, and Isabel Rennie also scored. Larkin Christiansen earned the shutout both days.

Palmer finished second in the conference.

Both Palmer teams advanced to the Division II state tournament, which starts Thursday in the Valley.

The Palmer boys are the No. 4 seed and meet fifth-seeded Kenai Thursday at 5 p.m. in the first round. The Moose girls are the No. 8 seed and face top-seeded Juneau-Douglas Thursday at 3 p.m. at PHS.
