Coaches across the state have tabbed the Colony boys and girls basketball squads as the top 4A teams in the state in the first Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches weekly poll of 2020.
On the boys’ side, Colony is followed by Dimond, Soldotna, East Anchorage and West Valley in the five-team poll. The Colony girls are ahead of Juneau-Douglas and Bartlett, which are tied at second, and West Valley and Chugiak.
The Colony boys tipped of their 2019-2020 season with a tourney title. The Knights won the Doc Larson Roundball Classic at Wasilla High School for the third straight year. Colony beat East Anchorage, Bartlett and Doherty, Colorado, during the four-day event. The Colony girls are off to a 5-1 start. Colony won three straight games in the Capitol City last week. The Knights swept a two-game set with Thunder Mountain, 53-40 and 58-31, and beat Juneau-Douglas 55-53. Indiya Clarke scored 13 and Maggie Spencer added 10 during the win over the Crimson Bears. Tori Schwantes led Colony with a dozen points during the 58-31 win over the Falcons.
Wasilla boys score home victory
The Wasilla Warriors scored a 51-46 nonconference boys’ basketball victory over Juneau-Douglas Wednesday night at Wasilla High. Andrew Devine led Wasilla with 16 points.
ACS sweeps Redington
Anchorage Christian School swept a pair of varsity games at Redington Tuesday night. Lexi Seymour led the Redington girls with 15 points. The Redington junior varsity team beat ACS earlier Tuesday, marking the first time in school history that a Redington team beat an ACS team.
