ANCHORAGE — With only four upperclassmen on the varsity roster, many of the Colony Knights were getting their first taste of action Monday, and head coach Lorie Miner loved what she saw.
“I was very happy to see what the girls did,” Miner said by cellphone after the Knights blanked Nikiski 5-0 at The Dome in Anchorage.
Senior Jamie Krediet scored twice, and freshman Carolyn Cox, sophomore Zoe Hixenbaugh and junior Krystal Heimerl also found the back of the net to help Colony win its season opener. Senior Meghan Riopelle and freshman Jaden Chew combined for the win in the Colony net.
“The girls looked really good,” Miner said. “The girls we chose to place on varsity did an awesome job.”
Krediet, who recently committed to play soccer at the University of Mary in North Dakota, scored in each half for the Knights. In the first half, Krediet bent a corner kick into the Nikiski net, and she blasted a shot from about 45 feet in the second.
“The nice thing about what Jamie’s doing this year is she’s not holding back on shooting,” Miner said. “He’s be a pivotal player for us this year.”
Colony boys blank Nikiski
ANCHORAGE — Hunter Fisher netted the hat trick to lead the Colony Knights to an 8-0 nonconference boys soccer win over Nikiski at The Dome in Anchorage on Monday.
Fisher, with help from Matt Kelly, scored during the seventh minute to give his team the 1-0 lead. Fisher converted a corner kick in the 16th minutes and completed his hat trick in the 45th.
Colony had a 4-0 lead by the 17th minute of regulation, getting the two Fisher goals and scores by Leo Jaschek and Kelly.
After Colony head coach Jeremy Johnson called for a full substitution at 20 minutes, Jorden Healy scored for the Knights in the 29th minute, thanks in part to what Johnson called a “great through ball” by Chris Olsen.
In the second half, senior Logan Basner scored his first career goal in the 53rd and Chris Hediger added a score off a cross from Healy in the 69th minute.
Johnson said he went into Monday’s action planning to split time between his starters and reserves equally. The first unit played the first 20 minutes of each half, while the second group played the final 20 of each half.
Senior James Meaney earned the shutout in the Knights net.
