Colony boys, girls finish 2nd in Homer Invitational swim meet

HOMER — Joseph Anderson won a pair of events to help the Colony boys swim to a runner-up finish in the boys’ standings of the Homer Invitational over the weekend in Homer.

Anderson finished first in both the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke. The junior clocked a time of 2 minutes, 6.5 seconds to win the 200 IM. Anderson shattered a 19-year-old school mark in the 100 breaststroke with his first-place time of 1:00.92.

Anderson, Zach Bloom and Jake Simmons all won events to help the Colony boys 70 total points in the team standings. Bloom and Simmons also broke school records during the meet. Bloom snagged his sixth school record in three meets, with his time of 1:47.25 in the 200 freestyle. Simmons finished first in the 100 butterfly with his time of 54.96, a new school record. Simmons also broke a school record with his time of 57.30 in the 100 backstroke. Simmons finished second in the event.

Bloom also finished second in the 500 freestyle.

Kodiak won the boys’ class with a time of 144 points. Soldotna was third with 55.

Gabe Waldhaus led the Palmer Moose with a win in the diving event. John Boston led Wasilla with a fourth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke.

Colony finished third in the girls’ team standings with 129 points, two shy of runner-up Soldotna.

Kodiak finished first with 232 points.

Camille Dayton led the Knights with a first-place finish in the 200 IM. Rachel Crosley was second in both the 50 and 100 freestyle races. Anne Sullivan was the runner-up in the 100 breaststroke.

Palmer finished fourth in the girls’ standings with 47 points. Sarah Hanson finished third in the 200 freestyle and fourth in the 500 freestyle for the Moose. Palmer was also second in the 200 freestyle relay. For complete results, see frontiersman.com/sports.
