Colony boys, girls lose Outside

The Colony girls lost their first two games at the Best of the West Tournament in Chino Hills, Calif.

On Wednesday, the Knights dropped a 53-48 decision to Canyon (Calif.) High. Then on Thursday, Colony fell 44-38 to Long Beach Jordan High on Thursday.

Against Chino Hills, the Knights were led by Alex Coon and Allie Grazulis with 16 points each, while Haylee Hotchkiss added eight.

In an email from the tournament, Colony coach Don Witzel said the Knights had their chances against both teams.

“We had plenty of opportunities to win, missed some easy chip shots, and gave up some easy ones as well,” Witzel wrote of the Canyon game.

Against Long Beach Jordan, Witzel said his team kept things close throughout but could never pull in front.

“We were down 38-36 with a couple minutes left, then had to foul in the closing minute, which enabled them to stretch their lead.”
