The Colony Knights junior varsity boys' squad opened Friday's basketball action at Colony High School, turning what was a comfortable lead into a nail-biter that came down to the wire against the West Eagles.
Starting the fourth quarter with a 43-28 lead, the Knights held off a fierce charge by the Eagles and walked away with a 49-48 victory.
The Knights played superb basketball for three quarters, rebounding well and penetrating the ball inside for points. Colony worked a solid transition game that set up the offense and controlled the game.
The Colony offense turned cold in the fourth quarter, finishing the game by adding only six more points.
The Knights also encountered problems with the West press that wreaked havoc on the Knights ability to move the ball up the court, forcing turnovers the Eagles were able to convert into points.
Down 49-48 with seconds remaining, West had the ball and one final opportunity to win the game.
The hustling Colony defense gave no opportunities inside, forcing West to take an outside shot that missed. The Knights got the rebound to secure the ball and drain the remaining seconds from the clock to take the 49-48 win.
