The Colony boys and Wasilla girls basketball squads opened their seasons with 3-0 records during the Doc Larson Roundball Classic at Wasilla High School.
Colony notched wins over Oregon Episcopal, West Valley (California) and rival Wasilla during the annual holiday tournament.
Mylz Mongeau and Leyton Lockard scored 16 points each to lead the Knights to a 56-40 win over host Wasilla. Deegan VanDussen led the Warriors with 15. Ridge Spencer led Colony with 16 during a 56-47 win over Oregon Episcopal. Lockard added a dozen. Lockard hit six threes and poured in 25 points for the Knights in the win over West Valley. Milak Balmes added 10 rebounds.
The Wasilla girls beat Nikiski, North Pole and Bartlett.
Wasilla dominated Nikiski 70-16. Layla Hays collected 19 points and 12 rebounds. Mylee Anderson also scored 19 for the Warriors. Savannah Kroon led Wasilla with 28 during a 66-33 victory over Bartlett. Hays added 18 points and 15 rebounds. Hays finished with 35 points and 10 rebounds in a 67-24 win over North Pole.
The Wasilla boys finished 2-2 in the tourney, scoring wins over South Anchorage and West Valley, and dropping games to Oregon Episcopal and Colony.
Noah Kroon had 29 in a 65-60 victory over South. VanDussen chipped in 15. Tristen Norton scored a game-high 25 during a 55-50 win over West Valley. Kroon led Wasilla with 13 in a 65-38 loss to Oregon Episcopal.
In Anchorage, the Colony girls used a 73-32 victory over the host Cougars to win the Service Tip-Off. Tonya Karpow led the Knights with 21. Hallie Clark added 14.
