Colony boys win Valdez Invite

VALDEZ ¬— The Colony Knights edged West Valley to win the boys team title during the Valdez Invitational Saturday in Valdez.

Colony’s Brandon Schafer skied his way to a second-place finish in the boys’ 8.4-kilometer race to help his team win the championship. Colony finished with a total time of 1 hour, 38 minutes, which stood just more than a minute better than runner-up West Valley.

Darien Sinnett (fifth), Lyon Kopsack (seventh) and Nick Harrison (eighth) also finished in the top 10 for Colony.

Tobin Sworts led fourth-place Palmer with his sixth-place finish.

Tracie Haan led Colony to a runner-up finish in the girls’ team standings with her third-place finish. Greta Jenkins and Katya Jenkins finished fifth and sixth respectively, and Tatjana Spaic added an eighth-place finish.

Kiersten Johnson led Palmer with a 10th-place finish.
