Colony Combined meet draws cross-country skiers from around region

PALMER — Wylie Mangelsdorf was the top Mat-Su skier during the two-day Colony Combined Invitational at Colony High School.

Mangelsdorf, a Palmer senior, logged a two-day total time of 26 minutes and 23.2 seconds to place fifth overall in the boys individual standings. Mangelsdorf also helped the Moose place fifth in the team standings.

Susitna Valley’s Morgan Michels and Colony’s Caitlin Skvorc also notched top-10 finishes in the overall standings.

Michels finished seventh in the girls standings, with a time of 32:14.3. Skvorc (32:29.10) led the host Knights with a 10th-place finish.

Shannon Stough and Mariah Shones finished 11th and 12th respectiviely to lead Palmer to a third-place finish in the girls’ team standings.

The Colony Combined replaced the originally scheduled Mat-Su Chaos on the prep cross country skiing schedule. Organizers had to battle less than favorable conditions while preparing for the invite.

The event featured a 3-kilometer skate on Friday and a 6-K classic race on Saturday morning.
