Colony diver breaks school record during Lathrop Invitational

WASILLA — A school record fell as the Colony Knights dominated the diving events at the Lathrop Invitational in Fairbanks last weekend.

Sophomore Tanner Belliston set a Colony school record during his win in the boys’ 1 meter diving event. Bellitson finished with a score of 235.10, topping the prior mark of 248.20 set by former Knights diver Nick Wise. Belliston finished nearly 30 points ahead of runner-up Cameron Koop of North Pole in the event.

Colony sophomore Eileen Cyr also scored a win in the 1 meter diving, using 192.55 total points to finish first in the girls’ event.

Freshman Kendyl Laughlin also notched an individual win during the meet. Laughlin finished first in the girls’ 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 1.77 seconds.

The Colony boys won a pair of relay events. Elliott Amato, Jake Simmons, Joseph Anderson and Camron Gossett combined to win the 200 freestyle relay, while Amato, Simmons, Anderson and Ryan Chastain posted a victory in the boys’ 400 freestyle.
