Colony freshman scores twice in shutout of Palmer boys

PALMER — After injuring his foot, Jake Forstner had to adjust the way he takes a shot.

After a highlight reel-worthy goal during the 67th minute, it was obvious Forstner has been practicing his new shot. The Colony freshman one-timed a pass from Zach Zmuda with the outside of his right foot, and placed a shot in the far upper corner of the Palmer net during a 9-0 win over the Moose Thursday at Palmer High’s Machetanz Field.

Forstner scored twice and Zmuda netted his first career goal during the Northern Lights Conference win over the Moose. Kyle Bolam and Ben Sande also scored twice. Harrison Menard and Ben Atkinson each found the back of the net.

Bolam took a deflection off a defender and knocked in the rebound during the third minute to give Colony the early lead. Five minutes later, Menard gave Colony the 2-0 lead. Bolam started the play with a corner kick. Atkinson bounced a header, but Palmer goalkeeper Brandon Banks made the save. The rebound was left free, and Menard chipped it high into the net.

In the 10th minute, Sande took a rebound off a Palmer defender and scored the first of his two goals to give the Knights the 3-0 lead. A minute later, Atkinson gave CHS the 4-0 advantage.

Cameron Shaw set up Bolam’s second goal during the 23rd minute. Forstner, with an assist from Asher Dale, scored the first of his two goals during the 27th minute. Sande, off an Alex Kessler throw-in, gave Colony a 7-0 lead during the 35th minute.

Forstner and Zmuda each scored in the second half.

Sean Haley recorded the shutout for Colony, and made a key save late to keep Palmer off the scoreboard. During the 75th minute, Palmer had a quality chance off a header following a scramble in the box. Haley made the save to preserve the shutout.

The match marked the final game of the regular season for Palmer. Colony caps its regular season Friday at 7 p.m. against Wasilla at CHS.
