PALMER — The 2008-09 edition of the Colony Knights already has a Northern Lights Conference title and a 4A state championship to its credit, achieving both of those feats during the 2007-08 season.

But prior to this season, this generation of Knights could not claim an undefeated mark in conference play.

Now they can mark that off their checklist.

Colony used a 66-24 win over the Soldotna Stars on Saturday to end the regular season a perfect 10-0 in NLC action.

While the idea of a perfect record during the NLC regular season may have been in the back of their minds, Colony head coach Don Witzel said the Knights had a more specific goal.

“The goal is to win the region tournament,” Witzel said.

Colony stormed to a 27-3 first quarter lead and 47-6 halftime advantage en route to earning the lopsided win. The Knights held Soldotna to just six free throws during the first 16 minutes, and the Stars didn’t hit their first field goal until Soldotna captain Jessi Stenga scored on her team’s first possession of the second half.

Colony senior Alex Coon scored al of her game-high 19 points in the first half, and fellow senior Allie Grazulis added nine in the victory.

Jessica Duke scored seven points to lead the Stars.

Colony will enter next week’s NLC tournament as the top seed from the NLC North. The Knights will open tourney play on Thursday against Skyview, the fourth seed from the South Division.
