The Colony Knights finished as the runner-up in the girls tournament during the Lancer Smith Memorial wrestling tournament at the Menard Arena in Wasilla.
Colony crowned three girls champions and finished with 151 total points in the team standings. Braelyn Troxell, Amelia Fawcett and Noelle Buck each won their weight class.
Troxell won by injury forfeit over Newhalen’s Pagen Lester at 120 pounds. At 145, in a rematch of the 2023 state championship match, Fawcett won 17-0 by technical fall over South Anchorage’s Saige Morris. Buck scored a 13-3 major decision over Honey Rexford of the Student Wrestling Development Program at 235.
The Student Wrestling Development Program won the girls team title with 190 points.
Wasilla’s Brynlee Lutz and Palmer’s Sarah Callender also won individual titles.
Lutz pinned North Pole’s Desiree Moore in the 138-pound final. Callender beat Seward’s Sobina Clendaniel to win the 126-pound class.
Grace Loutzenhiser was third at 100, and Calico McIntyre (132) and Kayden Makamson (138) placed sixth for the Knights. Olivia Probasco (132) was third, Helena Woodfork (114) and Taryn Wright (132) placed third, and McKinley Hafen (165) finished sixth for Wasilla. Lillie Vansiegman and Abigail Paddock were third and sixth for Palmer at 120.
Joy Walker led Redington with a runner-up finish at 165. Nikayla Miller (185) was third and Ashlynn Akers (100) placed fifth for the Huskies. Kimberly Tischner led Houston with a third-place finish at 235.
A pair of Valley wrestlers earned titles in the boys tournament.
Defending state champion Kaelan Vesel won the 189-pound class to lead the Palmer Moose. Vesel scored a 10-0 major decision over Mount Edgecumbe’s Richard Didrickson, who was previously unbeaten.
Wasilla’s Achilles Alexander pinned Soldotna’s Carson Cobb in the 130-pound final.
The Warriors finished fourth in the team standings, to lead Mat-Su teams. Thailyn Woodfork (140) and Kamryn Woodfork (285) advanced to the finals and finished second for Wasilla, and Peyton Wright (130) was fifth and Kaleb Boothby (160) finished sixth.
Luke Roderick led Colony with a third-place finish at 171, and Tristen Meyer (152) was fourth and Emilliano King (171) was sixth. Rueger Mothershead placed fifth at 285 for Palmer.
