Colony girls fourth at swim finals

The Colony girls' placed in a tie for fifth place in the ASAA/First National Bank 2002 State Swimming and Diving Championships at Bartlett High School over the weekend.

The Knights tallied 40 points to finish in a tie for fifth with Juneau-Douglas High School.

Elise Long led the Knight swimmers with a second place finish in the 200-meter individual medely. Long finished with a time off 2:14.71 in the race.

Sarah Brettrager notched a pair of fourth place finishes for Colony. Brettrager finished in the fourth position of both the 50-meter freestyle and the 100-meter freestyle.

Jorin Klawitter also placed in the 50-meter freestyle, placing sixth.

The Colony relay teams finished fourth in both the 200-meter freestyle relay and the 400-meter freestyle relay.

The lone Valley swimmer to place in the boys' championships was Logan Bean. The Palmer swimmer finished seventh in the 200-meter freestyle.

Bean's finish gave Palmer three team points and a tie for 16th in the team

standings.

Soldotna got at least a piece of the championship in both classes. The Stars edged the Service Cougars by two points to take home the girls' state title and Soldotna tied Juneau-Douglas for the boys' state championship.
