PALMER — Another season, another win for the Colony Knights at the Valley Invitational.
Colony used 70 total points to earn its second consecutive team title in the girls’ standings of the annual event at the Palmer Pool. Camille Dayton and Madeline Vig each captured an individual victory to help the Knights finish seven points ahead of runner-up Kodiak in the team standings. Dayton finished first in the 100-yard butterfly, with a time of 1 minute, 2.66 seconds. Vig was first in the 100 breaststroke, with a mark of 1:11.09. Dayton was also second in the individual medley.
Gretchen Snelders used a pair of top-2 finishes to help Palmer finish fourth in the girls’ standings with 36 total points. Snelders was first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.27, and second in the 500 freestyle.
Jake Simmons led Colony to a fourth-place victory in the boys’ team standings with his win in the 200 individual medley. Simmons clocked a time of 2:01.94 to finish first. He was also second in the 500 freestyle.
Wasilla senior Brayden Schachle continued his tear in the diving event, winning easily with a total of 545.40 points.
A pair of Palmer school records fell during the invite. Max Snelders broke a school mark in the 100 backstroke with his time of 55.15. The old record, set in 2011, was a time of 56.51.
Gretchen Snelders, Ashtyn Peterson, Kameela Fletcher and Lindsay Musgrave used a time of 2:00.16 in the 200 medley relay to break another school mark. The old record, set last season, was 2:00.24.
More than 300 athletes from 18 schools participated in the three-day meet.
