Colony girls win Interior Invitational

FAIRBANKS — The Colony Knights stormed across muddy trails to win the girls’ team title of the Interior Invitational at the Birch Hill Recreation Area in Fairbanks on Saturday.

Sophomore Audrey Michaelson used a time of 20 minutes and 57 seconds to place second and lead the Colony girls to the crown. Michaelson was one of five Knights to finish in the top 16.

Sophomore Makenzie Thompson (third), freshman Carolyn Cox (seventh), freshman Bailey Meier (13th) and freshman Rebeka Diotte (16th) also finished in the top-16 to help the Knights finish 18 points ahead of second-place Lathrop in the team standings.

Junior Abe Meyerhofer finished 13th to lead the Colony boys to a third-place finish in the boys’ standings. Five Knights finished within a 35-second span.

Saturday the Knights will host the Colony Invitational at Colony High School. The meet, which begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, includes a list of 15 teams from across the state. The boys’ varsity race is slated for 11:30 p.m. and the girls’ varsity race is at 12:15 p.m.
