FAIRBANKS — The Colony Knights girls basketball squad used a 46-40 win over Ketchikan to win the Mount McKinley Bank Holiday Classic at Monroe Catholic School Saturday afternoon in Fairbanks.
Colony opened the fourth quarter with an 8-2 run to help cement the win over the Kings, the Knights' third in as manyt days. Faith Farris sparked the run with consecutive baskets, and Ashley Turcotte and Sarah Brumbaugh added buckets to extend Colony's lead to nine points.
The Knights also hit key free throws late. Farris and Turcotte were a combined 4 of 4 from the line in the final minute.
Farris led the Knights with 16 points in the win. Turcotte and Sarah Bonn scored nine each.
Colony cruised to a 57-14 win over host Monroe Friday evening. Farris led the Knights with 20 points.
Colony opened the tournament with a 34-28 win over Northern Lights Conference rival Soldotna on Thursday.
Farris was named the girls MVP of the tournament. Stephens and Taylor Kauffman earned all-tournament honors.
Colony boys finish 2nd
The Colony boys finished second in the Monroe tournament. Host Monroe beat Colony 63-53 Saturday night.
Graham Dinkel and Tucker Looney each scored 11 points in the loss. Bailey West, Anton Chamblee and Robert Sonnenberg added eight each.
Friday, the Colony boys improved to 2-0 in the tournament with a 63-50 victory over Ketchikan. Chamblee drained four three-pointers, and scored 14 for Colony. West scored a game-high 17 for the Knights, and Dinkel added 10.
Chamblee, Looney and Dinkel were all named all-tournament.
