Colony girls win Seward invite; Wasilla senior finishes runner-up in boys race

WASILLA — Less than a week after clocking a personal best, Wasilla senior Quincy Fuller posted the highest finish of his career.

Fuller used a time of 17 minutes and 2 seconds to finish as the runner-up during the Frank Dieckgraeff Cross-Country Invitational Friday in Seward. The finish tops Fuller’s prior best, a fourth-place finish in the Colony Invitational last year. Last week, Fuller set a personal record time with a mark of 16:41.

Fuller helped the Wasilla boys finish as the runner-up in the team standings. Wasilla finished with 86 points in the standings.

Fuller was one of four Warriors to finish in the top 20. Karl Greathouse was 11th, with a time of 17:40. Isaak Bell was 1th, with a mark of 18:03. Kaleb Greathouse finished 20th, with a time of 18:13.

Colony finished just behind Wasilla in the boys standings, placing third with 91 points. Tracen Knopp led the Knights with a third-place finish and time of 17:08, and was one of three Knights in the top 10. Dakota Peterson-Thompson (17:31) was ninth and Dawson Knopp (17:36) placed 10th.

Palmer featured a pair of runners in the top 15. Ryan Kavalok (17:45) was 12th and Leif Mumma (17:54) finished 13th.

The Colony girls won their second team title of the season. Colony finished with 36 total points, 11 ahead of runner-up Homer. Sophomore Jill Bowker led a pair of Knights in the top 8 and was the first of five Knights to place in the top 12. Bowker finished fourth in the girls varsity race with a time of 19:46. Cathelyne Powers finished eighth with a time of 20:35. Alex Mathis was 10th with her season-low time of 20:43. Mathis was followed closely by teammates Jordyn Block (11th, 20:47) and Elisabeth Bowker (12th, 20:51)

Allison Van Pelt led the Houston Hawks with a 20th-place finish in the varsity girls race, and a time of 21:25. Jordan Burroughs led Wasilla with a mark of 22:23.
