SOLDOTNA — Colony success in the pool continued during another trip to the Kenai Peninsula.

The Colony girls, who already scored team titles during invites at Homer and Kenai this season, captured another crown, winning the Soldotna Pentathlon Sept. 25 at Soldotna High School.

The Knights placed three swimmers in the top 10 and five in the top 12, to finish with 47 points in the team standings. Camille Dayton led the Knights in the meet, which tests athletes in five different events. Unique from a standard swimming meet, athletes in the pentathlon compete in the 100-yard medley, 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle, and are ranked based on their combined times in the five events.

Dayton put together a combined time of 3 minutes, 9.72 seconds to finish fourth in the girls standings. Dayton just missed third, finishing just shy of Homer’s Lauren Kuhns (3:09.70).

Yanne Toussaint (3:10.61) was fifth for Colony, while Sarah Crosley (3:20.06), Alexis Mattson (3:20.41) and Samantha Belliston (3:21.41) finished 10th, 11th and 12th respectively.

Palmer’s Millie Snelders was the individual runner-up in the girls’ pentathlon, clocking a combined time of 3:08.06. Snelders posted the fastest time in the 50 breaststroke, with a mark of 33.09.

Colony’s Jake Simmons finished as the runner-up in the boys’ pentathlon. Simmons notched a combined time of 2:40.50. Joseph Anderson was fourth for the Colony boys, which finished third in the team standings. Max Snelders led Palmer with a seventh place finish.

The Colony girls also won the Soldotna Quad on Sept. 26, a meet that, despite its name, featured swimmers from six different schools.

Dayton helped the Knights notch four wins in girls races. Dayton finished first in both the 200 and 500 freestyle races, and helped Colony win both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle races. Eileen Cyr was first in the girls’ diving event.

Anderson placed first in the boys’ 100 breaststroke.

Millie Snelders was second in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke for the Palmer girls.

Braydon Schachle led Wasilla with another win in the boys’ diving event. Schachle is the defending state champion.
