Colony girls win Soldotna swim meet

The Colony Knights girls swimming and diving team enjoyed another big weekend, winning the team title of the Soldotna Invitational Oct. 8 in Soldotna.

The Knights finished with 109 total points overall, more than 30 ahead of runner-up Kodiak.

Merica Miller led the Knights with a pair of wins. Miller was first in the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle races. Jasmine Anderson won the 200 individual medley for the Knights. Hannah Cooper was the runner-up in the 200 and 500 freestyle races. Lori Houghton (200 IM) and Kylie Benner (100 freestyle) also placed second.

The Knights also won the girls 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.

Wasilla’s Deshawn Campbell led Valley athletes in the boys race, finishing first in the diving event.

Nina Adams led the Palmer girls with a pair of runner-up events, finishing second in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Aly Hrncir was second in the girls dive for the Moose.

Benjamin Doland (50 freestyle) and Craig Elledge (diving) were second for the Palmer boys.

Isaiah Hulien led the Colony boys with a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle.

SoHi also hosted its annual Soldotna Pentathlon on Oct. 7, a meet in which athletes put together a combined total times from five different events.

Anderson led the Valley with a runner-up finish in the girls class. Miller (third), Benner (sixth) and Cooper (ninth) also placed in the top 10 for the Knights.

Addie Charton was eighth to lead the Palmer girls.

Colony’s Kristofer Vangorder led the Valley with a sixth-place finish in the boys class. Jackson Charton was 11th for Palmer.
