KENAI — Junior Chase Stephens has a pair of region titles and the Colony Knights hold the top spot in the team standings after the first day of the Region III Championships at Kenai Central High School.
Stephens captured top marks in both the high jump and the long jump to help the Knights post 50 total points in the girls team standings. Stephens hit 16 feet, 3.25 inches to win the region long jump title for the second straight year. The junior also won her first high jump title with a mark of 5-4.
The Knights swept the Region III-4A high jump events. Colony sophomore Brandon Nicholson hit 6-4 to win the 4A boys event. It’s a career high for Nicholson, and now he’s tied for the top mark in the state this season.
Nicholson helped Colony hold second place in the boys’ standings after the first day. The meet continues Saturday. See frontiersman.com/sports for more.
