PALMER — It was a night of firsts for the Colony Knights Friday.
Three Colony players scored the first varsity goal in their career as the Knights played for the first time at Colony High School this season. Rick Peschel, Jake Hanchett and Alex Conrad each chipped in the first goal of their careers as the Knights stormed to a 10-1 win over the Seward Seahawks at CHS.
Peschel, who typically mans the defensive side of the field, ran into offensive third and knocked in a shot off a Matt Kelly cross during the 23rd minute to give the Knights the 3-0 lead.
Hanchett netted his first varsity score, with an assist from Grant Krueger during the 42nd minute. Hanchett also scored again in the 68th minute.
Conrad gave Colony the 6-1 lead with a goal in the 62nd minute.
James Meaney also scored twice for the Knights, which received other goals from Krueger, Hunter Fisher and Aaron Richardson.
Seward capitalized off a Colony turnover and scored its goal, off its lone shot, during the 52nd minute.
On Saturday, Colony played to a scoreless tie with Service during a nonconference match in Anchorage. Colony head coach Jeremy Johnson said the Knights had plenty of chances, but just couldn’t capitalize.
“We had all kinds of opportunities in their box — throw ins, corner kicks,” Johnson said.
Senior Jessie Krey earned the shutout during the tie and came up with at least three game-saving stops in the first half.
“Krey came up huge with some great saves,” Johnson said. “Not even giving up the rebounds, textbook saves.”
Colony returns to Anchorage to face West Tuesday at Anchorage Football Stadium.
