PALMER — The football factory known as the Farber family has churned out another college recruit.
Ty Farber, a recent graduate of Colony High School’s class of 2012, has signed his National Letter of Intent to play for Division III Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore. Farber will join a Wildcats team that also includes his older brother, Trey, a 2011 Colony graduate.
“I’m pretty excited to go play football with my brother,” Farber said recently. “It’s bigger than anything else right now. To go play with him for three more years is really cool.”
Farber was a three-year varsity standout for the Knights, and excelled on both offense and defense for Colony. Pursing college football has been a longtime goal. In addition to following Trey to Linfield, Ty is also following in the footsteps of his father, Rich, who played college football at Washington State.
Farber, who played a handful of positions during his varsity career, was named first-team All-Railbelt Conference at linebacker and second-team all-state as a senior. He was named second-team all-conference at center as a junior.
Farber will line up at defensive end for Linfield. He said he wouldn’t mind playing linebacker at the next level, but probably would have to drop too much weight. Currently, Farber is 5-foot-11, 240 pounds.
The biggest part for Farber, he said, is staying on the defensive side of the ball.
Linfield was one of a handful of schools Farber considered. University of Puget Sound and Lewis & Clark College were also possibilities.
College wrestling programs also expressed interest in Farber, who won a 4A state title at 215 pounds as a senior.
Overall, the opportunity to play football at Linfield with his older brother was too good to pass up, he said.
