ANCHORAGE — Former Colony High School standout David Registe is one of five Alaska Anchorage athletes to qualify for the 2008 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, UAA athletics announced on Tuesday.
Registe, a 2006 graduate of CHS, is making his second trip to the national championships. The sophomore won a Great Northwest Athletic Conference individual title in the long jump for the second straight year. He placed 12th at nationals last year, and currently holds the third-best jump (24 feet, 10 1/2 inches) at the Division II level.
The school-record leap is one of three UAA marks Registe holds. He also broke program records in the 100 and 200.
The 2008 championships are slated for May 22-24 at Mount San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif.

Palmer graduate scores touchdown in Division I scrimmage
PALMER — Jake Heun, a 2006 graduate of Palmer High School, scored a touchdown during the University of Hawaii’s annual spring scrimmage on April 26 in Honolulu.
Heun, a sophomore who recently transferred to Hawaii from San Francisco City College, caught a 3-yard touchdown pass with 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter to help the Hawaii black team score a 24-20 win over the green squad.
Heun, who signed with the Division I program earlier in the offseason, also had two rushes for eight yards.
Heun and the Warriors start the 2008 regular season at the University of Florida, the 2006 Division I national champions, on Aug. 30 in Gainsville.
Heun is one of two Valley athletes currently playing at the Division I-A level. Tim Egger, a Colony graduate, is a redshirt freshman punter at the University of Arizona.
After Heun signed with Hawaii, Palmer head coach Rod Christiansen said he believes Heun is the first Palmer football player to earn a full-ride scholarship at a Division I program.
