PALMER — On Friday, Service’s Rileen Skieens beat Colony senior Nate Wolfe on his home mat. But the following night, Wolfe redeemed himself.

Wolfe used a takedown in overtime to edge Skieens 6-4 in the 160-pound match of the championship finals during the Colony Invitational at Colony High School. After the finals, Wolfe said, heading into the match, he was ready to finally get a win over the Service grappler.

“After last night I was,” Wolfe said.

Skieens, who is ranked fifth in the state at the 160-pound class, beat Wolfe by five points during a dual meet at CHS. But on Saturday, Wolfe — ranked fourth at 160 — came from behind to score his first career win over Skieens.

The Service wrestler led 2-1 after the first period and 3-1 after the second. Wolfe cut Skieens’ advantage to 3-2 with an escape early in the third. He used a takedown to take a 4-3 lead with 56 seconds left, but Skieens managed to escape Wolfe’s grasp with 12 seconds left to tie it at 4.

Wolfe nearly scored another takedown during the final seconds near the edge of the circle, but Skieens was able to get out of bounds. Finally, during the last seconds of overtime, Wolfe was able to get the match-winning takedown.

“I was trying to get in quick and get a takedown,” Wolfe said.

Wade Booth, Luke Faulkner, Kyle Boss and Renn Wright also won their weight classes to help Colony finish second in the team standings with 195.5 total points. Service won the team title with 213 points.

Booth also won in overtime for the Knights. The freshman trailed 3-0 early in the match, but was able to out-last Ketchikan’s Ian Lontz in the final. Booth won 7-5 in overtime.

Boss also needed some late heroics to win at 152. Boss, the state’s top-ranked wrestler at 152, used an escape with 21 seconds left in regulation to edge third-ranked Ken Banning of Service 4-3.

Faulkner used a 7-2 win over Ketchikan’s Logan Collins to win at 135. Faulkner is ranked third in the state at 135.

In the heavyweight class, top-ranked Renn Wright beat Thunder Mountain’s Cole Bosio 12-3.

Avery Smith (140), Joe Fujimoto (145) and Quace Wright (189) finished second for the Knights.

Drew Drake (130), Jake Davis (171) and Luke Wagner (215) advanced to the finals and finished second to lead the fourth-place Houston Hawks.

Daniel Dahms (103), Tyler Carbone (119), Hunter Molesky (135) finished third to lead the fifth-place Palmer Moose.
