WASILLA — A couple late arrivals couldn’t spoil the party at Colony High, where the host Knights cruised to victory at the Colony Invitational wrestling tournament.
The Knights finished first by a comfortable margin over second-place Palmer and third-place Wasilla, a pair of teams who were added to the tournament roster on Friday. The Moose and Warriors originally planned to head to a Fairbanks tourney, but inclement weather on the Parks Highway kept them closer to home.
Colony finished with 258.5 points, followed by 166 for Palmer and 145.5 for Wasilla. The Knights got wins from Rush Fannon (98 pounds), Caleb Hopkins (138), Chace Booth (145), Chase Fannon (160), Robert Haan (170) and Dawson Nash (182). The Warriors were led by Berit Sturgeon, who defeated teammate Hayden Steiner in the 132-pound final. Wasilla also got second-place finishes from Isaiah Elvsaas at 126 and Samuel Wolff at 138. Palmer got runner-up finishes from Levi Farris (145) and Christian Kurka at 170.
