FAIRBANKS — Chase Stephens won a trio of events to lead Colony to a runner-up finish in the girls’ team standings of the Lathrop Invitational in Fairbanks last weekend.
Stephens finished first in the 100-meter hurdles, long jump and triple jump during the two-day meet in the Interior. The junior was also third in the high jump. Stephens helped Colony finish with 163 total points in the standings. West Valley finished first with 191.
Kristina Tennesen swept the throwing events for the Knights, placing first in both the shot put and discus. Jordyn Block, Elisabeth Bowker, Jill Bowker and Cathelyne Powers combined to win the 3,200 relay.
Powers (800), Alex Mathis (1,600) and Jill Bowker (3,200) ran to runner-up finishes in their respective races.
Brandon Nicholson and Tracen Knopp helped lead Colony to a third-place finish in the boys standings.
Nicholson won both the high jump and triple jump, and finished second in the long jump. Knopp was first in the 800 and second in the 3,200. Knopp also teamed with Tyler Daniel, Dakota Peterson-Thompson and Jacob Black to win the 3,200-meter relay.
Alex Alvardo won the shot put for the Knights.
Warriors compete in Homer
Ceil Dunleavy won the girls high jump to lead the Wasilla Warriors during the Homer Invitational last weekend. Sylvia Tuisaula was second in the girls’ shot put.
Wasilla finished sixth in both the boys and girls classes.
