Colony junior Ella Hopkins led Valley athletes with three individual wins during the Soldotna Invitational track and field meet over the weekend in Soldotna.
Hopkins finished first in the girls’ 800, 1,600 and 3,200-meter races. She posted a season best in the 1,600 (5 minutes, 29.27 seconds) and 3,200 (11:58.45). She used a time of 2:26.09 to win the 800.
Hopkins also helped Colony finish second overall in the girls team standings with 152 total points.
Annelise Larsen also won an event for the Knights, finishing first in the 400 with a personal best time of 1:00.51. The Knights also won the girls’ 800-meter relay.
Palmer’s Abby Pettit and Avery Johnson and Redington’s Mya Campbell also won events. Pettit was first in the shot put with a distance of 35 feet, 7 inches, and Johnson won the high jump with a mark of 4-8. Campbell was first in the long jump with a mark of 15-7.25.
Colony also led Valley athletes on the boys side with three individual winners and a runner-up finish in the team standings with 164 points. Tobias Buchanan won the 3,200 for the Knights with a time of 10:23.02. Kenton Phelps used a season best throw of 133-2 to place first in the discus. Trevor Jamison notched a personal best mark of 42-5.75 to win the triple jump.
Jamison (long jump) and Kenneth Motten (triple jump) finished second for the Colony boys. Buchanan (1,600), Jamison (110 hurdles) and Ben Holladay (shot put) placed third; Motton, Ethan McNulty (discus), Blake Pomrenke (long jump) and Trge Vang-Thompspn (3,200) were fourth; (400); Phelps (shot put), Trayvon Lott (long jump), Asher Thomas (triple jump) and Gabriel Black (3,200) placed fifth; Jamison (high jump), Andrew Richardson (discus), Nolan Thayer (shot put) and Chandon Lutz (3,200) placed sixth; Jerome Vito (110 hurdles), Jerom Dawson (300 hurdles), Isaac Kristich (800) and Weston Sensabaugh (1,600) finished seventh; Alexander Chales (100) placed eighth.
Myles Campbell led the Redington boys with a second-place finish in the high jump.
Stephen Hafen led Wasilla with a second-place finish in the 1,600. Mark DeArmond was third in both the 100 and 200. Gabriel Carey was fourth in the 1,600 and sixth in the 800. Hafen was also fifth in the 800, and Calvin Musgrave was fifth in the 300 hurdles.
Brayden Licht led Palmer with a third-place finish in the 400. Corbin Gerkin (100) was sixth, Andru Cook (3,200) was seventh, and Tobias Bailey (110 hurdles) and Nolan Garner (high jump) were eighth.
Larsen also finished second for the Colony girls in the 100 and 200, and Aubrey Virgin was second in the 1,600. Denali Anderson-Berghoff was fourth in the 100 and fifth in the 200. Mary Burnett (200) and Jillian Pool (400) placed fourth; Virgin (300 hurdles), Cassidy Knutsen (400), Audie Fischer (discus) and Rylee McIntosh (high jump) placed sixth; Mariella Belliston (800) and Elliot Sensabaugh (seventh); and Fischer (shot put), Malia Matthews (high jump) and Shaelyn McCann (triple jump) finished eighth for Colony.
Leila Petersen was also second for Palmer in the 400. Karley Tichenor (3,200) and Kynedi Clark (100 hurdles) were eighth.
Alexia Pike placed second in the discus and seventh in the triple jump for Redington. Campbell was also third in the triple jump and seventh in the high jump.
Sophia Dickson was fifth in the long jump to lead the Houston girls.
