Colony nets three-game sweep in Interior

FAIRBANKS — Colony completed the sweep of a tough road trip through the Interior with a 44-30 win over North Pole on Saturday afternoon at North Pole High School.

Sophomore Mary Klapperich led the Knights with 12 points in the game, and senior Kate Klapperich added eight. Allison Leigh and Pharrari Brumbaugh had seven each.

Josie Broderick led North Pole with 12.

Colony trailed by one point after the first period, but rebounded to take a three-point lead into halftime.

The match pitted a pair of top-5 teams. Colony is ranked fourth according to the latest Alaska Association of Basketball Coachces poll. North Pole, which saw it’s 10-game winning streak snapped with the loss to Colony, is fifth.

Mary Klapperich scored six of her 13 points during the first quarter to help spark the Colony Knights, who scored a 58-27 win over West Valley at West Valley High School Friday.

Klapperich and senior Tess Forstner each scored six during Colony’s 21-6 first-quarter run.

The Colony defense didn’t allow more than eight West Valley points in a quarter, and held a 33-14 lead at the half. Kate Klapperich scored a game-high 15. Leigh added 11.

On Thursday, Kate and Mary Klapperich combined for 31 points to lead Colony to a 66-40 win over Lathrop.

Kate Klapperich hit a trio of three-pointers and scored a game-high 17. Mary scored half of her 14 points in the first quarter.

Saige Stefanski added a dozen for the Knights.

Hutch edges Houston

FAIRBANKS — The Hutchison Hawks held on for a 37-34 win over Houston Saturday in Fairbanks.

Savanna James scored a game-high 18 in the loss. Paige Wagner added seven and Savannah Ritter chipped in six.

North Pole grabbed a 44-27 Mid-Alaska Conference win over Houston Friday at North Pole High School.

James led Houston with nine points. Janae Shannon added eight. Josie Broderick scored a game-high 11 for North Pole, while Reagan Smothers scored 10 for the Pats.

Warriors sweep Bears

KODIAK — Wasilla senior Joel Quenga hit a pair of buzzer-beating 3-pointers — about a 30-footer to end the first quarter and a half-court shot to end the third quarter — to help lead the Warriors to a 67-48 Northern Lights Conference win over Kodiak at Kodiak High School on Saturday.

Junior Connor Devine added a game-high 24 to Quenga’s 10 points. Wade Stahle added 12.

Wasilla opened the game with a 21-5 run.

On Saturday, Wasilla closed with a 25-7 win to earn a tough 61-44 win over the Bears. Kodiak had led 37-36 with 1:36 left in the third quarter.

Devine scored 13 in the win Saturday.

past Knights

FAIRBANKS — West Valley closed with a 5-0 run to earn a 45-40 win over Colony at West Valley High School on Friday.

Colony sophomore Hunter Eisenhower drilled a three-pointer with less than three minutes left in regulation, but the Wolfpack held the Knights scoreless for the remainder of the game to earn the win.

Eisenhower scored 14 to lead the Knights. John Renfro scored a game-high 23 for West Valley.

On Saturday, North Pole scored a 60-43 nonconference win over Colony.

Senior Jesse Ward hit four three-pointers during the first half and scored 18 points for the Pats.

Hawks beat

Hutchison

FAIRBANKS — Theo Stone and Scott Kramer both scored in double figures to lead the Houston Hawks to a 44-24 win over Hutchison on Saturday.

Beau Frank added eight in the win.

Senior Jesse Ward scored all 22 of his points during the first half to lead North Pole to a 54-38 win over Houston Friday at North Pole High School.

Tyler Barron scored 13 to lead Houston.

Kings top Moose

KETCHIKAN — Kyle Day scored 21 points to lead the Ketchikan Kings to a 63-53 win over the Palmer Moose in Ketchikan on Friday.

Senior Trey Fullmer scored 17 to lead the Moose. Senior Christian Odom added 10, and junior Jarred Straight chipped in eight.

On Saturday, Ketchikan scored a 62-49 win over Palmer.
