Colony, Palmer boys to meet in first round of state tournament

PALMER — There will be an all-Valley match in the first round of the ASAA First National Bank 4A State Basketball Championships. The Northern Lights Confernece champion Colony Knights will meet rival Palmer on the first day of the boys tourney.

The Knights and Moose are scheduled to play March 20 at 5:10 p.m. at West Anchorage High School, according to the schedule released by ASAA on Sunday.

Colony earned the No. 1 seed in the tourney, thanks to its WPI rating. Palmer, the No. 3 team from the NLC, is the eighth seed. All teams that advance are seeded according to ASAA's Win Percentage Index.

The Colony Knights own the No. 2 seed in the girls' bracket. The Colony girls, who also won an NLC title on Saturday, will face seventh-seeded Lathrop March 20 at 11:20 a.m. at West High.

Colony is one of the girls teams from the Valley to advance to the tourney. Fifth-seeded Wasilla, the defending 4A state champions, will face Juneau-Douglas at 1 p.m. March 20 at West High in a rematch of the 2007 state title game.Sixth-seeded Palmer plays South Anchorage at 6:50 p.m. March 20 at West.
