Colony runners win multiple events

PALMER — Four Colony runners each won a pair of events each to lead the Knights during a meet at Palmer High School last Thursday.

Carolyn Cox was first in the 400 and 800-meter races, Audrey Michaelson won the 1,600 and 3,200 and Natalie Lautrup swept the hurdles events for the Colony girls. Brandon Schafer finished first in the 1,600 and 3,200 to lead the Colony boys.

Palmer’s Taylor Blake won the girls’ shot put and helped the Moose with the 400 relay.

Mason Minturn led the Palmer boys with a win in the 800. Minturn posted a time of 1:59.95 and became only the second runner this season to break the 2-minute mark in the race. Minturn’s teammate, Joe Day, holds the state’s season best in the event, a time of 1:59.32.

Day was second to Minturn on Thursday.

The Houston Hawks swept the 100-meter events. Colton Buzby won the boys’ event, while Taylor Holen was first in the girls’ race.
