Colony scores wins over Soldotna, Kenai

HOUSTON — The Soldotna Stars struck first, but the Colony Knights struck often.

After Soldotna took an early 1-0 lead, Colony scored seven unanswered runs to score a 7-1 win over the Stars Friday at Kramer Field in Houston.

Ben Ross was solid on the mound and at the plate for Colony High. Ross pitched a complete game, fanning eight and walking none during seven innings of work. Ross allowed four hits and no earned runs.

At the plate, Ross was 2 for 2, with a run scored and an RBI. Layne Cottingham also finished with two hits, a run and an RBI. Logan Sanders scored twice for CHS.

Colony 10, Kenai 0

PALMER — Dalton McHugill pitched a two-hit shutout, and led the Colony Knights to a 10-0 win over the Kenai Kardinals Saturday afternoon at Hermon Brothers Field in Palmer.

McHugill fanned five hitters and didn’t walk a Kardinal in the win.

McHugill was also one of two Knights with two RBI and one of three to score two runs. Josh Finch collected two hits, two runs and two RBI. Layne Cottingham also scored a pair of runs.
