A Colony skier earned a spot on the podium during the first day of the ASAA/First National Bank Nordic Skiing State Championships Thursday in Fairbanks.
Knights senior Coby Marvin finished third in the boys 5-kilometer classic, with a time of 14 minutes, 21 seconds. Marvin’s teammate, Gabe Black, was fourth at 14:27. Colony’s Raven Spangler also posted a top-15 finish, placing 12th at 14:58. Weston Sensabaugh was 20th for the Knights.
Colony sits at second place in the boys team standings after the first day, 0.26 seconds behind leader West Valley.
Palmer junior Teigan Copp led the Moose boys at 30th, with a time of 16:15.
Colony sophomore Elliot Sensabaugh led Valley skiers in the girls 5-K classic with a seventh-place finish and time of 17:52. Fellow sophomore Isela Austin was 14th for the Knights at 18:07.
Palmer sophomore Amelia Parker led the Moose girls with a 20th-place finish and time of 18:25.
The state meet continues Friday with the boys and girls freestyle races.
