PALMER — With his 6-foot-5 frame, Colony senior Jonathon Boyer is hard to miss when he lines up on the ice.

But height is not the only reason Boyer stands out.

Boyer, who bagged 18 goals and 31 points during the regular season, has been named the North Star Conference Player of the Year.

“He’s just so long, he’s tough to deal with,” Colony head coach Jamie Smith said of Boyer recently. “The kid’s an unbelievable athlete.”

Boyer scored at least a goal in nine of the 19 games he appeared in as a senior, and collected multiple goals five times. He had at least a point in a dozen games.

Boyer’s greatest success came against rival Palmer. In two regular season games and a postseason tournament game, Boyer scored nine goals against the Moose.

Boyer was also a top special teams player for the Knights.

“He’s 6-5, 220 pounds and can skate,” Smith said.

Boyer was one of a pair of Colony players on the first team. Senior Morgan McJimsey also garnered first-team honors. McJimsey finished second on the team with 14-10-24 totals for the Knights, who finished in a tie for third with Homer in the NSC.

Wasilla, which won the conference title with a 3-2 win over Soldotna last Saturday, placed four players on the first team. Forwards Brett Keene and Colton Fletcher, and defensemen Andrew Cooley and William Harren each received first-team honors.

Fletcher scored twice during the win over the Stars.

Fletcher finished in a tie for first in scoring with 8-9-17 totals in NSC play. Cooley furnished with a team-high 10 assists during the regular season, according to a team website.

Palmer goalie Ashton Good represented the Moose on the first team. Good enjoyed a streak of 118 straight minutes without allowing a goal in NSC play this year.

Soldotna (forward Dalton Pearson, defenseman Matti Silta and goalie Cody Harvey) and Homer (forward Tommy Bowe, defenseman Dennis Sanarov and goalie Alex Sanarov) each placed three players on the first team.

Palmer forwards Hayden Moistner and Jacob Inukai, Colony defenseman Logan Sanders and Wasilla’s Jack Reeves were all named second-team.
