Colony senior leads Valley skiers during first day of state meet

ANCHORAGE — Colony senior Abe Meyerhofer was the top Valley athlete during the first day of the ASAA/First National Bank Nordic Skiing State Championships at Kincaid Park in Anchorage on Thursday.

Meyerhofer placed 17th in the boys’ 7.5-kilometer interval start freestyle technique race. The senior completed the Kincaid course in 20 minutes and 9 seconds.

Schyler Knopp led the Palmer Moose with a 40th-place finish in the boys race, while Connor Mattson led Wasilla with a 48th-place finish.

Susitna Valley’s Morgan Michels led Mat-Su skiers with a 46th-place finish in the girls’ 5-K race.

Jasmin Johnson placed 60th to lead Palmer. Greta Jenkins was 72nd to lead Colony, and Tressa Loveless was 98th to lead Wasilla.

Racing continues today in Anchorage with the boys’ 10-K mass start classic technique race at 11 a.m. and the girls’ 7.5-K classic at 12:15 p.m.
