Colony suffers loss

ANCHORAGE -- The Colony Knight boys' basketball squad suffered a tough 78-48 loss to the Bartlett Golden Bears during the first round of play of the 2003 Alaska Prep Shootout at Dimond High School Thursday.

The Knights fell behind early and whenever they tried to capitalize with a big shot, the Bears rushed back with a shot as good or better.

Landon Swank led the Knights with 18 points in the contest. The senior hit six shots from the field, including one from behind the arc. Fellow senior guard Clay Hotchkiss hit a trio of trifectas for Colony en route to a 12 point performance.

Zack Bowman led the Golden Bears with 18 points.

Palmer pounds the Panthers

The Palmer boys' basketball team cruised to a 69-42 victory over the Skyview Panthers at the SoHi Tip-Off at Soldotna High School Thursday.

Stanley Ratcliff paced the Moose with a game-high 17 points. Brandon Gaines added 16 points for the Moose.

Palmer, 6-2 overall, has yet to lose a game in the state of Alaska. Palmer, 4-0 in Alaska, went 2-2 during a trip to California over the winter break.

Palmer girls win

The Palmer girls' hoops team scored a victory in the first round of the Peninsula Challenge at Skyview High School Thursday.

The Moose edged the host Panthers 44-42. With the win, the Moose earned a right to move on to the tourney's semifinals.
