VALDEZ — Colony High School swept the five-team Valdez Invitational swim meet Friday and Saturday at the Valdez Pool.
The Knights posted team wins in the boys, girls and combined events both days. On Friday, the Colony boys edged second-place Wasilla by 10 points, while the girls were nearly 30 points better than Valdez.
Colony was even better Saturday, winning the boys’ competition by 68 points and taking the girls’ title by 91.
Wasilla’s combined boys and girls scores were good enough for second place overall on both Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, Colony’s Katelyn Payne swam to individual victories in the 200 yard individual medley and 100 yard backstroke. Payne was also part of two winning relay teams for the Colony girls, which won the 200 yard medley, 200 yard freestyle and 400 yard freestyle relays.
The Colony boys won four events Friday, including individual victories by Rhowe Stefanski in the 100 yard butterfly and Jeffrey Frey in the 200 and 400 yard freestyle races, as well as a team victory in the 200 yard freestyle relay.

Wasilla’s Tommy Hightower and Charles Frey each had big days as well. Hightower won the boys’ 200 yard individual medley and swam on two winning relays, while Frey won the 100 yard backstroke and also was a part of two relay wins.
Caity Stigen was the big winner for the Wasilla girls, picking up individual wins in both the 100 yard butterfly and 50 yard freestyle Friday.
Palmer’s David Psenak won the boys’ 100 yard freestyle for the Moose, which placed third behind the Knights and Warriors in both days’ combined team events.
