SOLDOTNA — Jake Simmons was the leader among three Colony Knights in the final boys standings of the Soldotna Pentathlon.
Simmons finished as the runner-up in the boys class of the 33rd annual meet, held Friday in Soldotna, to help Colony finish second in the team standings.
Athletes swim in five different races — the 100-yard individual medley, 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle — and the individual race times are combined to make one total time. Simmons managed to finish the five races in a combined time of 2 minutes, 41.76 seconds. He finished about five seconds shy of Kodiak’s Talon Lindquist, the overall winner for the boys.
Zach Bloom finished third for the Knights, clocking a total time of 2:43.65. Colony’s Joseph Anderson was fifth, with a total time of 2:44.90.
The Colony Knights placed two in the girls top 10. Sierra Kinworthy led Colony, finishing the five races in a total time of 3:08.54. Camille Dayton was 10th, with a time of 3:18.80.
Millie Snelders led the Palmer Moose with a total time of 3:11.24, which placed her sixth.
Colony finished third in the girls team standings.
Saturday, Colony and Palmer joined Kodiak and Soldotna in a quad meet at the Soldotna Pool.
The Knights, who have been setting school records on a weekly basis this season, added to new school records to the list. The relay team of Bloom, Anderson, Simmons and Elliot Amato set a record for the second time this season in the 200 medley relay. The total time of 1:41.71 shattered the mark of 1:43.36 set earlier this year. Bloom also broke a record in the 200 freestyle, using his time of 1:47.07 to place his name once again on the record boards. The Knights have broken a total of 13 school records this season.
In other action, Anderson won the 100 breaststroke Saturday.
On the girls’ side, Kinworthy, Dayton, Anne Sullivan and Rachel Crosley combined to win the 200 medley relay, with a time of 2:01.50. Kinworthy also won the 100 butterfly (1:01.91) and Crosley was first in the 50 freestyle (27.37).
