Colony wrestlers finish third in Oregon duals tournament

PORTLAND, ORE. — The Colony Knights finished third among 28 teams during the Northwest Duals in Portland, Ore., Saturday.

Colony, the lone Alaska team in the event, beat David Douglas High School of Portland 54-24 in the third-place dual of the championship bracket. David Douglas took an early 9-0 lead in the dual, and led 12-6 before Colony jumped to the lead with three consecutive wins. The Knights won eight of the final 10 matches during the dual.

Kamber Lucas sparked the Knights, pinning Mathias Peak during the second period of the 152-pound match. Wade Booth (160) and Christopher Ray (170) followed with consecutive pins for CHS.

David Douglas competes in Oregon’s Class 6A.

Dallas High School of Dallas, Ore., edged Colony 32-30 in the championship semifinals. Cody Bibler, a defending state champion in Oregon, scored a pin during the final match of the dual to give the Dragons the win. Dallas finished in Oregon’s Class 5A state tournament last year.

Colony dominated its pool Friday, finishing 6-0. Colony beat Sunset (Ore.) 61-13, South Salem (Ore.) 76-5, Lakeridge (Ore.) 75-3, Century (Ore.) 50-22, Woodburn (Ore.) 72-6 and Hood River (Ore.) 54-21.
