Tom Brennan’s article (8/22, “Willow Project Holds State’s Future”), is a great example of climate change denial 2.0, while ignoring the state’s actual energy potential. He acknowledges (it’s hard not to) that climate change is a real concern, but his article (even the title) ignores that completely (more oil and gas extraction is “the state’s future”). He can’t have it both ways. If we really acknowledge the severity (and urgency) of the climate change problem, we need to act accordingly. We need to leave that oil and gas in the ground, since extracting and burning it contribute to the problem. The state has enormous potential for renewable energy development instead. That, not the Willow project, is the state’s future.
