To the editor,
Mr. Grota’s comparing Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler (“Time to give ‘The Donald’ the boot,” Dec. 10) is incorrect and totally out of line. Hitler scapegoated members of a peaceful religion who had been leading productive lives in Germany for hundreds of years. Trump is addressing accepting refugees from the war-torn Middle East, some of whom have already demonstrated that they are terrorists.
I also disagree with wanting to register people of Muslim descent and having them carry special IDs, monitoring mosques, and banning Muslims from entering our country. These acts would be truly unconstitutional and are not all attributable to Donald Trump.
The Constitution, however, is the point. Mr. Grota, do you remember the oath you took to uphold the Constitution of the United States? We must be sure that immigrants of all nationalities also swear to uphold that Constitution before they enter our country. Sharia law followed in Muslim countries is not compatible with our Constitution. “No man can serve two masters.” Will these hundreds of thousands of Muslim refugees be willing and able to learn and abide our laws or will they turn back to the laws they grew up under? It is surely either/or, as there is no way for both to exist in the same country.
It is time to be cautious with people of Muslim heritage coming from countries where parades in the streets call for destruction of America and killing of infidels. Delaying immigration to properly vet refugees is appropriate. Carriers of dangerous diseases and those with criminal histories have long been unacceptable for immigration.
You swore to uphold our Constitution; immigrants must also make that commitment, stopping people from entering our country that follow Sharia law instead of our Constitution must be controlled. I have no issue with Muslims or any other immigrant group that will follow the U.S. Constitution and want to be American citizens. I do have a problem, as does Donald Trump, with anyone that does not.
