Community members across the Mat-Su Valley and beyond are coming together to support Alaskan country music performer Ken Peltier and his family after losing their son Luke Peltier who recently died in an automobile accident.

There is a memorial fundraiser benefiting the Peltier family set for Aug. 9 at the Four Corners Lounge. The event starts at 3 p.m. and it will feature food, auctions, raffles and live music.

Midnight Sun Tanning owner and Chronic Hope of Alaska founder Amber Doyle is helping organize the Luke Peltier memorial fundraiser. She said that she was devastated by the tragic news.

“My heart broke for them all," Doyle said. “I think the main thing we're trying to accomplish here is to help the family grieve without worrying about the financial obligation.”

Luke graduated from Palmer High School and was a member of the Moose wrestling team. Prior to his death, Luke was attending Snow College located in Ephraim, Utah, where he was also a member of the men's wrestling team.

“I know for a fact that he was an amazing wrestler,” Doyle said.

Snow College published an article announcing Luke's death and expressed condolences. According to the article, Luke was traveling along a highway and the vehicle crossed into a median and crashed.

“Snow College athletics mourns this tragic loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends. We are so sorry,” Snow College Athletic Director Rob Nielson stated in the article.

Staff in the Athletics Department were notified of the accident in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Snow College President Stacee McIff also expressed sympathy over the tragedy.

“We are heartbroken to learn of this tragic accident; the Snow College family is grieving the loss of one of our own. We offer Luke’s family, friends, teammates, and coaches our comfort and support during this very difficult time,” Mclff said.

According to Doyle, the fundraiser will feature a live and silent auction with a variety of items donated by local business owners and community members. She noted that there will even be autographed items that were donated by nationally recognized artists Ken has performed with and befriended over the years.

“We did get some pretty big items," Doyle said.

Numerous local musicians are set to perform throughout the evening.

Doyle said it's very touching seeing how many different people have donated their time and resources to support the Peltier family.

“We haven't really even had to ask. People are just willing to help," Doyle said. “I am overwhelmed by how amazing this community is.”

Doyle said that all are welcome to attend the Luke Peltier memorial fundraiser.

“I would just like to see a full house. I would like to see everyone come together to show their support," Doyle said.
