Why do we have to have candidates making partisan pledges for our local, nonpartisan elections? Don’t we have enough of that in national politics?
When I go to vote in a local election, I look at the quality and character of the candidates, their contributions to our community and their stand on issues that directly impact our community. I do not expect our representatives to lock-step vote according to any political party.
I just found out from a candidate that this person was approached by a member of the Valley’s Republican Party who said the party would pay for all signs, all ads and all that was needed to get elected. All the candidate had to do was promise to always vote as told. If this candidate agreed and made the pledge, would Valley constituents be represented? I think not.
We don’t need a Grover Norquest wanna-be dictating to our representatives. As my father used to say, knock it off!
